Christian Devonn Long, of Indianapolis, died February 26, 2016. He was born January 13, 1998 in Indianapolis, the son of Carl Long and Machelle Young. He attended Lawrence Township schools and will graduate from Lawrence North High School this year. He had recently been accepted and had received scholarships and grants to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where he planned to study medicine.
Christian accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
Christian was passionate about personal fitness and fashion and was deeply committed to being successful in his classes, where he was exceeding a 3.9 GPA, and his part-time job. Christian was most passionate about helping others. Whether it was reaching out to a friend or neighbor who needed a kind word or spending a week each summer helping with home repairs for communities in need, Christian found great satisfaction in meeting the needs of others.
Christian is survived by his parents Carl & Bridgette Long and Machelle & Adam Young; his brothers Jordan, Ethan and Nate and his sisters Brooke, Nevaeh and Carlee. He also leaves his grandparents Tim & Rae Andreanopolous, Jim & Dianna Long, Jerry & Holly Young, Toby & Kristie Fleetwood and Lajoi Jackson and Arthur Alexander. He is also survived by his uncles Brian, Eric, Mark, Jonas, Jonathan and Stephen and aunts Janette, Alyssa and Buffie as well as cousins, extended family and so many close friends from school, work and church, in particular lifelong friend Robert Jackson Jr.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Indiana Funeral Care in Indianapolis. Calling hours will be at Church at the Crossing (9111 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46240) from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 and from 9am to 11am on Saturday, March 5, 2016. The funeral will also be held at Church at the Crossing on Saturday, March 5, 2016 @ 11am. A procession will follow for a graveside service at Crown Hill Cemetery (700 W 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to support the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and Henderson Settlement where Christian found so much joy helping others. Envelopes will be at the church available during calling hours and before and after the funeral service.

Our family is heartbroken by Christian’s death. 18 year old Isabelle remembers Christian from Fall Creek Valley Middle School where she felt he was one of the few people who was kind to her at a difficult time in her life. We also are intimately familiar with the devastation of losing a young person to suicide. You are in our constant thoughts and prayers.
